Man arrested for raping, killing minor girl
ISLAMABAD: The city police have solved the rape-cum-murder case involving a six-year-old girl and arrested the alleged killer. A spokesman said on Sunday that Secretariat police found the girl’s body from a nullah near Quaid-i-Azam University on Friday.
She was identified as GZ and her father, a resident of Rawalpindi’s Gawalmandi area, had already lodged a complaint about her disappearance from the vicinity of Bari Imam Shrine. A police team was constituted to investigate the incident which interrogated about 40 people.
On suspicion, the police team picked up a devotee (MB) of Babu Shah Darbar. During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he taken the girl to a deserted place near the Quaid-i-Azam University Colony on the pretext of offering ice-cream and chips. The accused raped the minor girl, causing excessive bleeding. The victim died on the spot.
The alleged rapist threw the body in the nullah to hide the crime. After the confession, the police nominated the accused in a murder case for further legal process. The victim along with her family — parents and siblings — came to Bari Imam Shrine on June 8 to pay homage to the saint and camped at Darbar Babu Shah.
On the night of June 11, the father along with the victim went to a shop and purchased ice-cream and asked her to return to her mother, but she never reached the shrine premises. The next day, the girl’s body was found in the nullah. An autopsy suggested that she was subjected to rape and died due to excessive bleeding and or smothering.
