Majid Nizami’s reception for Dr Niazi, Khalid
LAHORE — TheNation and Nawa-i-Waqt Chief Editor Majid Nizami on Monday hosted a reception for Nawa-i-Waqt columnists Dr Ajmal Niazi and Khalid Ahmed to congratulate them on being awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance, respectively.
Deputy Managing Director Rameeza Nizami, TheNation Editor Salim Bokhari, former Nawa-i-Waqt columnist Abdul Qadir Hasan, and senior journalists of the Nawa-i-Waqt Group were also present at the Hameed Nizami Hall, the venue of the event.
In his brief address on the occasion, Khalid Ahmed thanked Majid Nizami for organizing the reception. He said though a coincidence, Majid Nizami had called him to congratulate him on a day when he was missing the late Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi to share his joy.
Dr Ajmal Niazi said he regarded Majid Nizami as his chief editor even at a time when the former was writing for a rival newspaper.
He said it was a great honour for him that today he was flanked by Majid Nizami and Rameeza Nizami.
He said President Asif Zardari was under obligation to prove himself as “Mard-i-Hurr”, a title given to him by Majid Nizami.
Senior columnist Abdul Qadir Hasan said it was a great honour for anyone recognized as a columnist by Majid Nizami. He congratulated Khalid and Dr Niazi for getting the awards and their being fortunate to get an opportunity to work under the leadership of the Nawa-i-Waqt chief editor.
He said he was thankful to Majid Nizami for aggrandizing him from a novice to a columnist.
Ms Rameeza Nizami congratulated the awardees.
Many others praised the services of the Nawa-i-Waqt chief editor for the profession and Ideology of Pakistan.
