Main accused in Japanese women rape at large

LAHORE, May 27: The Garden Town investigation police failed to arrest Umer Irshad, main accused in the rape of two Japanese women Sheizuka and Kei, on Sunday.

Police raided Umer’s Faisalabad residence on Saturday and Sunday but ended up arresting his family members.

Other four accused – Adil Mansoor, Fahad Rai, Liaqat and Jalal – are in police custody on a four-day physical remand and will be produced before the judge on May 31.

Police arrested four accused on the complaint of Japanese embassy on May 21 on charge of drugging and raping the two Japanese women.

Investigators, quoting medical report of the alleged raped women, said Sheizuka and Kei were not virgin while some marks of torture were found on Kei.

They said the chemical examination report would ascertain the exact cause of the crime. The report will be finalised in a few days.

Police investigators added the alleged raped women had only two concerns: the accused did not use any contraceptives and that they were drugged.

Criminologists say circumstantial evidence goes against the accused but medical evidence may support them.

Sources said both women approached police on May 24 thus wasted crucial time.Sheizuka and Kei refused to talk to the reporters.
