Local newspaper editor given last chance to submit reply

RAWALPINDI: The court of Civil Judge and Area Magistrate Malik Azmat Ullah Awan has given last chance to the editor of a local newspaper Shoaib Bhutta to submit reply in the petition filed by Jang Group of Newspapers regarding the contempt of court and adjourned the case till 25th March, 2010.

Jang Group of Companies through Amjad Afsar Advocate filed a petition in the court on 10th Dec 2009 in which it was contended that the said person at the behest of someone had published baseless, concocted and fabricated stories in his newspaper against the Jang Group.

He had also launched a mud-slinging campaign against the Group in the form of posters, banners and advertisements in the twin cities as all the evidence had been produced in the court along with the petition.

It is pertinent to mention here that Shoaib Bhutta is hosting a programme on the state-run TV and is also its employee. He is very near to some influential persons of the capital and he is considered their representative.

Jang Group submitted various applications in the police stations of the capital for an appropriate action against him but to no avail. Afterwards, the Jang Group had to knock at the door of the court. The court issued stay order and ordered him to stop the nefarious campaign against the group. The Jang Group submitted a contempt of court application twice, but the accused did not appear before the court the other day. The court issued a notice to the accused to appear before the court on the next hearing and submit his reply.
