lnternet charges to further go down

KARACHI- Internet charges will further come down as the government has asked the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) for the same, said the Director General Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Muhammad lqbal Wasim.

Director General PTA, Muhammad lqbal Wasim, said “with new projects like fibre-cable operation internet charges besides other facilities will be reduced.” He said the Authority had so far issued 198 licences regarding 12 various services including satellite services, voice mail services and vehicle tracking services etc., and out of these 80 licences were operative. The users of these 12 services run into millions.

Pakistan has signed World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) agreement on basic telecommunication, under which new license sector could be opened for competition after that date. At present, competition has been started in cellular, paging, data communication, Internet pay phone and many other services.

The Director General Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said the telecommunication standardization sector studies technical, operating and tariff questions and adopts recommendations on them with a view to standardizing telecommunication on a worldwide basis.

The study cover services and networks, operational procedures, tariffs and accounting principles, transmission, switching and signalling and other allied aspects.
