PESHAWAR: Provincial Coordinator Lady Health Workers Programme (LHWP) Dr Ehsanullah Turabi on Sunday said that the lady health workers (LHWs) were providing all basic facilities to the internally displaced women in and outside the relief camps in Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda and Nowshera districts.

Dr Ehsan said that 1,193 lady workers in Swabi district, 995 in Charsadda district and 72 in Nowshera district were providing healthcare to 47,037 displaced women registered inside the camps and 94,07400 women registered outside.

The number of expectant mothers inside the camps was 1,322 while the number of those living outside the camps had reached 9,087, Dr Turabi said this while briefing Minister for Excise and Taxation Liaquat Shabab during the latter’s visit to Sheikh Shehzad and Sheikh Yasin camps. Mardan MPA Imtiaz Shagai also accompanied the minister.

Dr Turabi told the minister that the health workers had examined 3,296 displaced women suffering from diarrhoea, 2,826 suffering from respiratory diseases, 2,142 suffering from skin diseases, 2,624 suffering from malaria and 1,761 suffering from eye diseases and provided them with free medicines. He said the lady heath workers also vaccinated the IDPs against measles and polio. He further told the minister that 5,438 health education sessions had been organized in the camps to check the spread of epidemics.
