LHC takes notice of ‘police inaction over gang-rape’

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday took notice of a newspaper report claiming that Toba Tek Singh police was reluctant to register a gang rape case of a drumbeater’s wife and sought report about the incident. The LHC complaint cell directed the district & sessions judge, Toba Tek Singh to look into the mater and submit a detailed report about the steps taken by the local police along with his own comments, within a week. According to the news report, a drumbeater’s wife, was allegedly gang-raped by robbers on February 18 in Gojra village. The victim had identified the suspects and stated that accused Abdul Shakoor along with three accomplices of her village barged into her house, trussed up her husband with a rope, collected cash, ornaments, three cell phones and gang-raped her. Mumtaz Bibi, wife of Ramzan claimed that Gojra Sadar police were reluctant to register a case against the influential criminals even after the passage of more than three weeks.
