LHC seeks reply from NAB in Double Shah’s daughter case

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court here on Tuesday sought a reply from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Punjab, in a petition challenging the physical remand of a daughter of Sibtul Hassan alias Double Shah.

The bench, comprising Justice Hasnat Ahmad Khan and Justice Mohammad Ashraf Bhatti, also admitted the petition for regular hearing. Double Shah’s wife Kausarun Nisa, through Aftab Ahmad Bajwa advocate, submitted that her daughter, a student, had nothing to do with her father’s business. She said her daughter had been in the NAB custody for the last two weeks.

Kausar’s counsel said that according to the Supreme Court’s ruling a woman could not be sent on physical remand except for being involved in a robbery or murder case, quoting “Asfandyar Khan versus NAB” case ruling in support of his argument. He alleged that the NAB had been keeping the girl in custody for getting illegal gratification.

When the court asked Ali Tipu, the NAB counsel, about the case, he said that Double Shah’s cases were pending before a division bench, headed by Justice Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi. The bench sought NAB’s reply till August 13.
