LHC again issues notices to Pemra
LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan Thursday again issued notices to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) over its failure to stop a private channel from broadcasting defamatory programmes against the Jang Group and Geo channel and its owners.
The court is hearing a writ petition, filed by the owners of the Independent Newspapers Corporation (Pvt) Limited and the Independent Media Corporation (Pvt) Limited, represented by senior lawyer AK Dogar.
As hearing started, the court was informed that no one had appeared on behalf of Pemra. On it, the court deferred hearing till January 28.
The petitioner contended that though the matter was sub-judice in various courts, the respondent TV team persisted with its baseless tirade against the petitioners.
The petitioner said Section 20 of the Pemra Ordinance 2002 bars broadcast of defamatory material.
