Lecturer accused of sexual assault

LAHORE, June 06, 2005: Syed Muhammad Shah, a retired peon of Government Faridia College Pakpattan, has accused college lecturer Shabbir Shah of sexually assaulting his daughter-in-law. Syed’s son Muhammad Hussain is a waterman (grade 4 employee) and lives in a cottage in the college.

Syed said Shabbir came to visit him on May 21 when just he
and his daughter-in-law were at home. When Syed went to get his guest a cold drink, Shabbir sexually assaulted his daughter-in-law, Syed told a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on June 5 afternoon. An FIR under the Hudood Ordinance has been registered at Pakpattan Sadar police station “after hectic appeals to the sessions court,” he said. He alleged that the police were not investigating the case, because Shabbir had bribed them. He said Shabbir had a bad reputation and the college principal knew this. Syed’s wife and daughter-in-law were also at the press conference. He wept throughout the press conference, saying he was poor and unlikely to get justice.
