Lawyers join newsmen’s protest

SIALKOT- Journalists and lawyers of Sialkot joined hands with the newsmen of Head Marala to protest against the killing of Jaffar Khan by Muradpur police on Feb 21.

Jaffar Khan was the daily Pakistan’s correspondent and a councillor of a Head Marala union council. The correspondents of national dailies based in Head Marala continued their strike for the third day.

Members of the Society of Newspapers Editors of Sialkot took out a procession on Wednesday to protest the killing. The procession started from Allama Iqbal Chowk and terminated at Sialkot district government offices. The participants demanded immediate arrest of the accused policemen and strict departmental action against them.

Gujranwala Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Khwaja Khalid Hassan has transferred the investigation of Jaffar Khan’s murder to range crimes branch in Gujranwala.

The DIG has appointed crimes branch Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Iftikhar Peerzada and range crimes Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Rana Shaukat as investigation officers. The DIG will supervise the investigations.
