LAHORE (February 06 2008): Caretaker federal minister for Human Rights Ansar Burney has said that a human rights commission is being established soon and a summary in this regard has already been sent to President and Prime Minister.
Talking to APP during his visit to the Regional office of Human Rights here, he said 8500 prisoners who were invovled in minor offences and not released due to non-payment of fine amount were released from various jails of the country according to law.
He said the government was taking steps to increase the salaries of the jail employees besides giving them other facilities. “The suiciders have no religion and they are also not citizen of any country,” he said. He urged the political parties and people to condemn the elements involved in anti-state activities. He said the government has taken all necessary steps to hold February 18 polls in fair, free and impartial manner.
