LAHORE: A senior staffer of a local English daily, Mehboobul Hiraj, was beaten up by SHO Sandha Police Station Javed Siddique last Sunday.
The said SHO detained Hiraj illegally for three hours.
The SHO also registered a fake FIR against the newsman under sections 324 and 148 of the PPC.
Hiraj said he was purchasing cigarettes from a shop near his house in Sandah on February 3 when the said police officer reached there along with police squad. Javed Siddiqui started thrashing him. Helater threw him in the vehicle and took him to the police station.
The journalist was released on the intervention of CCPO.
