KUJ demands probe into attack on TV reporter

PESHAWAR: Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ) demanded, on Tuesday, setting up of judicial commission to probe the failed life attempt on senior TV reporter Hazrat Khan Mohmand and immediate arrest of the attackers.

“We set September 15 deadline for the commission and demand immediate arrest of the attackers,” said KUJ President Malik Arshad Aziz while addressing a protest rally condemning the Monday attack on the journalist in broad daylight in high security zone.

Within a month, a media office and journalists were attacked in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa straining the nationalist Awami National Party-led coalition government’s relations with vibrant media in Peshawar with journalists pointing accusing fingers at the Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain.

“We will devise future course of action if the government does not respond to our demand positively,” Arshad warned. “The attack on Hazrat Khan is the most worrying for all of us and as long as the government does not bring perpetrators of the crime to justice,” he vowed. The police made no arrest so far and no headway was reported in police investigation.
