KU to set up FM radio at campus

KARACHI , March 11,2005: The University of Karachi will formally be awarded license on March 15 to establish a campus FM radio station by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra).

Department of Mass Communication, KU, will operate the radio station mainly to fulfil academic needs of its students regarding practical component of the curriculum.

Sources at the KU said the proposed license had envisaged broadcast of the FM campus radio in a radius of 12 kilometres. They said that whole operation of the station including its recording and broadcast would be carried out at the Dr Feroz Ahmad Institute of Mass Communication that is currently under construction at the KU.

They hoped the campus radio station would start its broadcast within next six to eight months once facility of the Mass Communication institute was also completed.

Prof Dr Tahir Masood, Chairman of Mass Communication Department, will attend the ceremony for signing terms and conditions of the license after which it will formally be awarded to the KU at the Pemra office in Islamabad.
