KU to offer online French course

Karachi: The University of Karachi’s International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) will start an extensive online course on “Basic French Language” from April 12 in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise.

The language programme aims to enlighten students with cultural and socio-political norms in France and contribute to the academic and professional requirements of their disciplines to help them excel in their careers. The language programme will start from April 12 2016 for a period of five months, the official mentioned.

According to him, the Director ICCBS Professor Dr M. Iqbal Choudhary presided a meeting in this regard on Saturday which was held at HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, and has given approval of starting language course.

He said that this course would be coordinated and transmitted online through the Latif Ebrahim Jamal National Science Information Centre, ICCBS, in collaboration with the French language experts: “This course has been designed to help undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students specialising in biological and chemical, social sciences to have well-rounded knowledge of the French language and to foster international cooperation as well.”

He further said that details of this course can also be viewed on the official website of the Centre. Successful students will receive a certificate of completion (A1 level) at the end of the course and they could pursue the language course by paying Rs2000 per month on the account as its fee.

It was also told that ICCBS would also start three-month course in Arabic in collaboration with Sheikh Zayed University from May this year.

Choudhary also mentioned that the Centre had previously successfully conducted nationwide consecutive “Basic Chinese Language Courses (I, II, and III)” bi-annually in 2014, 2015 and in 2016 in collaboration with the Chinese Language experts at the Confucius Institutes in Karachi and Islamabad.

More than 150 students successfully attended and received the certificates of this course. The next Chinese language course will start from September, 2016.
