KPC members can enjoy free medical facilities at CDGK hospitals

KARACHI (August 03 2007): All the bona fide members of Karachi Press Club will henceforth enjoy free medical facilities in all the hospitals of City District Government Karachi. An announcement in this regard was made by Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal, while speaking at “Meet the Press” program of Karachi Press Club here on Thursday.

He cited the example of a couple of journalists under treatment at hospitals like the Aga Khan and said that on his directives their treatment expenses were being met by the City Government.

He disclosed that Pakistan’s top most pathological laboratory would start functioning at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from August 16 for which machinery and equipment worth Rs 230 million had been purchased and installed and required medical and para medical staff and technicians were appointed.

He also made a reference to CDGK’s Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases where, he said, angiography is carried out only for Rs 3,000 as against Rs 35,000 charged elsewhere and angioplasty is done for Rs 35,000 for which other hospitals charge Rs 150,000 to Rs 200,000.

On the occasion Mustafa Kamal announced a grant of Rs 0.5 million for Karachi Press Club. He told the President KPC Sabihuddin Ghausi and other members of governing body to consider KPC’s 110 year old building as being their own and called for starting its reconstruction even if they did not have its ownership documents.

He announced that KPC will not need to have any financial assistance from the Federal or Provincial Government as City Government has the capacity to join hands with the Press Club’s members in its reconstruction.

The Nazim also announced the construction of a park by City Government in KPC’s Hawksbay Housing Society besides a 2-room office. He said that development work of Hawksbay Housing Society for Journalists would be expedited by Lyari Development Authority. Mustafa Kamal declared his all out support and commitment to KPC for the solution of its problems.
