PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s website was hacked by a group calling itself “Pakhtun Cyber Army”.

The hackers left a message on the defaced website that the web portal was not hacked for fun, but to highlight failure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government in the province.

The hackers defaced kp.gov.pk with another message criticising PTI Chairman Imran Khan. It said Imran Khan was using the KP people to occupy “Takht-e-Lahore”.

The message titled “Tabdeeli Aaa Nahi Rahi, Aaagai Hai”, said KP was being run from Bani Gala, the residence of Imran Khan in Islamabad.  The provincial government suspended its webpage temporarily, which was restored later.

Web portal restored

Later, the web portal of the KP government was restored within one and a half hours by technical team and information technology experts of the relevant department, a statement issued here stated.

The hacker was also identified and a case will be sent to the authorities concerned for further investigation.

Meanwhile, all other web portals and sites managed by the provincial government are being scanned to sddress such problems in future.

The hacker replaced a picture on the homepage on the affected portal without any damage to the data. The major web portals were kept under observation for the time being.

Being a public data website, no sensitive information was hacked or defaced as the security mechanism had restricted the hacker to minor defacement only, the statement said.
