Khyber Pakhtunkhwa journalists take out rally

Journalists fraternity on Tuesday strongly condemned that attack on media house and firing incident on a journalist working with local newspaper, demanding of the impartial and fair inquiry in the incidents. In this connection, journalists under aegis of khyber union of Journalists staged a protest demonstration on sher shah suri road near press club.

The protesters were spearheaded by president (KhUJ), Arshad Aziz Malik, general secretary Ali Hazrat Bacha along with scores of journalists, representatives of civil society organisations. The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed slogans against attack on AAJ TV and Business Recorder office, and firing on a local journalist Salman Shahzad.

The protesters have expressed grave concern over growing attacks on media houses and firing, harassment and torture of journalists in the province, demanding of chief justice Peshawar high court Dost Muhammad Khan to take suo motto action against the incidents.

Talking to reporters on the occasion, Arshad Aziz Malik strongly condemned the attack on Aaj TV/Business Recorder offices in Karachi and firing on a local journalist Salman Shahzad. He asked government to take proactive measures to protect live and property of journalists and media houses. The secretary general Ali Hazart Bacha also deplored the attack Aaj TV and Business Recorder offices, demanded of the government to take serious steps for provision of journalists’ security and media houses in the country. He said that attack was tantamount to press the voice of freedom of expression and stop journalists to write truth.

He informed that this was not first incident of attack on media office, but government is failed to stop such heinous and nefarious attempts. He said that a number of journalists were killed in line of duty, but no inquiry made to expose the hidden hands behind killing and attacking on journalists. He demanded of the government to conduct an impartial and fair probe into the attack of Aaj TV/Business Recorder offices, firing on a local journalist, Salman Shahzad and to expose the faces behind the incidents.
