KhUJ flays attack on crew of TV channel Gives call for protest today

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Union of Journalists has condemned the cowardly attack on the reporting team of a TV channel, which resulted in serious injuries to senior journalist Hazrat Khan Mohmand.

In a press statement, KhUJ President Arshad Aziz Malik and general secretary Yousaf Ali asked the government to order an impartial inquiry into the incident to fix responsibility and award exemplary punishment to those involved in the gory incident.

The KhUJ office-bearers said around 21 journalists had been killed in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the adjacent tribal belt over the last five years. Scores of them were kidnapped and tortured, they added.

Only three days back, the crew of Samaa TV channel was attacked by the police while they were busy in coverage at the Hayatabad Medical Complex after the deadly attack on a mosque in Jamrud whose injured were brought to the health facility. Bureau Chief of Samaa Shaukat Khattak suffered serious injuries in the incident.

The journalists body called a protest against the attack on the team of AVT Khyber at the Peshawar Press Club today (Tuesday) at 12 noon.
