Karo-kari claims four lives

By Abdul Aziz

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Four people, including two women, were killed and another was kidnapped in Ramzan Gordani village near Moro on Friday.

Chandio tribesmen, peasants of Khera village, got the wind that two women of their tribe had developed relations with the men of Mallah community. The Chandio tribesmen took Nimani Chandio 28 and her cousin Dadli 30 to the residence of the suspected brothers, Abdul Majeed Mallah 35 and Shahnawaz Mallah 33. After calling the men outside, Chandios asked the four to save their lives by running fast.

As the four ran to protect their lives, Nimani’s brother Mumtaz Chandio and his men opened fire, killing the four on spot. They then kidnapped a widow and mother of six, Zaibul Mallah 29.

Moro SHO Zahid Panhwar and SPO Mir Liaquat Talpur along with heavy police contingent raided the residences of Chandios and arrested Mumtaz Chandio. Police recovered the gun used in murders while other accused escaped, taking with them Zaibul Mallah.

Mir Liaquat told Dawn that the bodies were taken to taluka hospital Moro for post-mortem while arrested Mumtaz Mallah confessed to killing four people for committing karo-kari.

He said the FIR would be lodged once complaint was made at the police station. The SPO refuting claim of Zaibul’s kidnapping said that she left the house on her own while sources maintained that she was returned on the intervention of Pir Budhal Shah.

Men and women of Mallah community told journalists that they were poor and law abiding persons. They alleged that Moro police were informed in time but they reached late.

The SPO Moro denied the allegation and claimed that they were at the spot within 20 minutes of information.
