Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) demands seventh wage board

KARACHI- The president of Karachi Union of journalists (KUJ) Sarfaraz Ahmed, has demanded that the seventh wage board for journalists and employees of newspapers and news agencies be constituted immediately.

He was speaking at a dinner hosted by KUJ for its members at the Karachi Press Club The KUJ president also demanded that the interim relief should be given to the employees of the newspapers and the news agencies. He urged that it be ensured that the sixth wage board award be fully implemented.

Sarfaraz said that a joint meeting of the executive committees of the Pakistan Federal Union of journalists (PFUJ) and All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (APNEC) would be held in Karachi. He further added that the representatives of the two bodies would discuss the strategy towards the resolution of the problem.

Speaking on the occasion, APNEC President Abdul Hamid Chhapra demanded that the newspapers owners should withdraw their intra-court appeal against the implementation of the sixth wage board award. He also urged regularization of contract employees working in various newspapers.
