Karachi tops in rights’ violations

RAWALPINDI: The human rights cell of the Ministry of Law and Justice received 639 complaints relating to human rights (HRs) violations from across the country in 2006 with the highest number of 274 from Sindh and lowest number of 10 from the federal capital.

The ministry has received 251 complaints from Punjab, 53 from NWFP and 51 from Balochistan.

The sources revealed that a gradual increase was seen in cases of human rights violations during the last five-year as the ministry had received 2,722 complaints from four provinces and the Islamabad.

They said that Karachi tops in human rights violations as the ministry received 677 complaints during last five years. They said that the complaints have been forwarded to the concerned authorities for taking necessary action.
