Kaira rules out mid-term polls

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Thursday ruled out the possibility of mid-term elections in the country, saying that people had given the coalition the mandate for five years and the government would complete its five-year term accordingly. Talking to journalists here at the Parliament House, the minister said that mid-term polls were no solution to the problems being faced by the country.

“There have been so many experiences of mid-term polls in the past. However, none of those served the purpose. The only solution to the problems faced by the country is that all the democratic forces have to sit together and take joint decisions,” he remarked.

The minister said that PPP strongly believed in unanimous decision-making by the political forces and the Charter of Democracy was also a milestone to achieve the objective. “Even Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto laid down her life for the same cause. Nobody should bother about the fate of this system and this government would continue for five years.”
