Kainat Soomro’s brothers booked in murder case, court told

Karachi: Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) South Nizar Ali Khawaja put off the hearing of Kainat Soomro gang rape case for further arguments till June 12.

The hearing of the bail application of one of the accused, Roshan, was also deferred till June 12. When the court started its proceedings on Tuesday, Deputy District Public Prosecutor Abdul Maroof argued that both the medical and chemical examination reports have proved that Kainat Soomro was sexually assaulted.

It may be mentioned here that the case was earlier referred to the district and sessions judge (DJ) South after a brawl occurred between the families of the victim and the accused. The family members of accused also threatened and attempted to attack the judge who referred the case to the DJ South.

However, no response was yet made by the DJ and the ADJ continued the proceedings on the request of accused’s counsel, Waqar Shah.

The case took a new turn when two brothers of Kainat Soomro were booked in murder case by Mehar police station and they have been sent to jail. One of the accused Roshan has filed a bail application in the court. His counsel submitted that the victim’s contradictory statement did not prove him guilty of the charge.

It is pertinent to note that the bail application of another accused Shaban Shaikh had been rejected by the court.

The prosecutor, however, said that the accused has been nominated in the FIR and the medical and chemical examination had also proved that offense was committed. He further argued that being in tender age the victim would not speak lie, adding, her statement was also corroborated by the medico-legal officer.

Kainat Soomro was gang raped by four people in district Dadu on January 10, 2007 and an FIR (76/2007) was registered by Mehr police station against Shaban, Roshan, Ahsan and Kaleemullah.
