Journalists to hold countrywide protest tomorrow
ISLAMABAD: A demonstration was held on Wednesday by the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) against the baton-charge on the participants of a peaceful rally outside the Parliament on Tuesday.
A large number of journalists participated in the demonstration. Addressing the protesters, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Pervez Shaukat condemned the police action against journalists and announced country-wide protest against the incident as well as against kidnapping and registration of fake cases against mediapersons and retrenchment of media workers.
He took strong exception to the target killing of journalists and plight of mediapersons from Swat. Speaking on the occasion, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said the government was taking necessary steps for the implementation of the seventh wage award.
RIUJ President Shahryar Khan and Convener and World Minorities Alliance, J. Salik also spoke on the occasion.
