Journalists slam Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister’s remarks, seek apology

SKARDU: Taking exception to the insulting remarks of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah against local journalists, the Skardu-Baltistan Union of Journalists and Baltistan Electronic Media Reporters Association on Sunday said if the rulers couldn’t tolerate constructive criticism, they had no right to rule the people.

In this regard, the two journalistic forums held an emergency meeting here, chaired by Skardu Press Club President Nisar Abbas.The meeting condemned the insulting and unparliamentary remarks of Syed Mehdi Shah and MLA Gilgit-Baltistan Sheikh Nisar Sarbaz against local journalists, says a press release.

The meeting unanimously decided to give one week to the Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister for submitting an unconditional apology to journalists while there will be complete media blackout of his meetings during the week.
