Journalists, media bodies slam bid to defame Safma

LAHORE: Leading media persons and editors have condemned the ‘blatant accusations and lies’ of Zaid Hamid against the South Asian Free Media Association (Safma).

In a statement on Thursday, the leading media personalities took an exception to the unfounded accusations made against a media organisation of credible journalists of South Asia in a show that violated all ethics of professional journalism.

The media representatives expressed their serious concern, taking exception to the dangerous trend of maligning various personalities and credible organisations. They said it was quite despicable that the Safma representative had not been contacted to rebut the atrocious allegations.

Appreciating Safma’s remarkable role in defence of right to know, freedom of expression, press freedom, rights of journalists, media development, peace and regional cooperation, senior journalists endorsed Safma’s decision to issue libel notices to the concerned.
