Journalists join outcry against blasphemy
LAHORE: Journalists in the city on Wednesday protested against the anti-Islam movie and staged a demonstration outside the US consulate. Several print and electronic media organisations and associations, including Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ), PUJ Dastoor, Photojournalist Association and Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Committee took part in the protest.
The protesting journalists criticised the double standards of US government in the name of freedom of expression and permitting its citizens to dare to sacrilege the teachings of Islam. They termed the blasphemous film the “worst example of ethical terrorism”. They demanded that the government register a strong protest with the American government against the film and ensure that such nefarious acts are not repeated. They announced that they would boycott media coverage of the US government in Pakistan if the former does not take prompt action against the blasphemous film.
