Journalists hunger strike for justice

ISLAMABAD Journalists from Islamabad/Rawalpindi observed ‘a hunger strike on Monday in front of the Parliament House. They were protesting the murder of fellow ‘ journalist Amir Bakhsh Brohi, a reporter of the daily Kawish Sindh, as well as against the Sindh Government for not taking appropriate action against the culprits.

The strike was unanimously observed by the press gallery, until it was assured by Information Minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad that the culprits would be arrested. Local ‘ journalist and union leader C R Shamsi, Nawaz Raza, Afzal Butt and others addressed the occasion and lamented the Sindh Government for its inefficiency.

Federal Ministers Naurez Shakoot and Liaqat Jatoi assured the journalists that they would talk to Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali about the issue and contact the Sindh chief minister about arresting the culprits.

A Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians delegation led by its President Makhdoom Amin Fahim and including Shery Rehman and Nawab Yousaf Talpur attended to express their’ solidarity with the protesters. A Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal delegation comprising of Liaqat Baloch, Farid Paracha and Maulana Asadullah Bhutto assured the journalists of their cooperation and condemned the Sindh government for not arresting the culprits.
