Journalists hold rally against maltreatment

QUETTA- Dozens of journalists hailing from print and electronic media on Tuesday took out a rally to protest against maltreatment of police with media personnel and staged a demonstration outside Quetta Press Club.

The rally was held under auspices of Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) led by General Secretary Quetta Press Club Abdul Rehman Achakzai and other senior journalists.

The participants of rally were carrying placards and banners inscribed with various demands. They were also shouting full throat slogans against police officials who manhandled reporters on Monday during a protest by police.

Addressing the rally Abdul Rehman Achakzai and other senior journalists strongly protested the maltreatment of journalists by police.

They regretted and said that the protesting police personnel had wounded a reporter and used abusive language against newsmen but so far no official from government side had condemned this act.

They said that some hidden forces were terrorising the media to stop them from reporting facts, but such tactics would never stop them from performing their professional duties.

Later on, the journalists dispersed peacefully.

Meanwhile, the cases have been registered against 250 policemen in Civil Lines police station for manhandling the journalists.
