LAHORE- Lahore journalists staged a march front the Lahore Press Club to the Governor’s house to protest against the police raid on the Press Club.

The journalist raised slogans against the government officials responsible for the attack on the Press Club. Addressing the journalists the President LPC Munir Chaudhry and President PUJ Bakhtgir Chaudhry said the journalist community will not hesitate to sacrifice any thing for safeguarding the freedom of the Press. “The attack on the press club has negated the tall claims made by the government to protect the freedom of the press” they added.

On the conclusion of the procession the President of the Press Club presented a memorandum to the Director General Public Relations, Punjab at the Gate of the Governor’s House. A spokesman of the Punjab government, while commenting on the procession of the members of Lahore Press Club. has said that there seemed no justification for the protest since the matter was resolved in accordance with the wishes of the representative delegation which met the Chief Secretary some days earlier.

The spokesman said the Chief Secretary met the delegation and agreed to both of their demands. The demands were to hold an inquiry and to transfer an SP from his present assignment. The delegation was satisfied and they had called off their protest.
