Journalists demo against torture on colleague

DADU: The journalists held protest demo at the Indus Highway against the K.N Shah Police station for torturing and illegally detaining senior journalist Iqbal Khunharo.

Dadu Journalists took out protest rally from the Dadu National Press Club to the DPO chowk on call of the Sindh Journalist Foundation against the K.N Shah police station SHO, ASI Hassan Chandio and other police constables. The journalist demanded their immediate suspension and inquiry against them.

The journalists were led by Ghous Jhatyal, Qurban Bughyo, Nizam Shaikh, Iqbal Khunharo, Fareed Shaikh, Tariq Laghari, Saeed Sindhi, Gul Sehwani and Deedar Hussain Shaikh. They blocked vehicles on the Indus Highway for more than an hour.

The leaders while addressing the protest demo alleged that five days back a Sindhi newspaper senior journalist and reporter was illegally tortured and detained when
he reached to cover a road accident report. The ASI and other police constables took him to the K.N Shah police station where SHO Salah Uddin Memon severely tortured him and illegally detained him for eight hours in the police station lock up.

However, Dadu SPO Gul Baig Jatoi reached the journalists and assured them that action would be taken against involved police officials, within a day.

Jatoi said that the DPO is not present in Dadu. “I would submit report to the DPO and action will be initiated against them,” he said. SPO confirmed that the journalist was tortured badly after he saw marks on the journalist body.

The journalists have demanded immediate suspension and inquiry against involved police officials otherwise they will extend their protest and will file a petition in the court for FIR registration. They ended their protest after Dadu SPO assured them that actions would be taken against all involved police officials.
