Journalists condemn police manhandling

LAHORE: Journalist organisations across the Punjab have condemned a city police station in-charge for misbehaving with a senior journalist, demanding that action be taken against the relevant official.

The Lahore Press Club governing body expressed serious concerns about the manhandling of a staff member of The News, Mahboob Hiraj, by the Sandha SHO. Club President Mohsin Goraya, Vice President Imran Yaqoob, Secretary Moazzam Fakhar, Treasurer Zahid Abid and members of the governing warned that the journalists’ community would take to the streets if action were not taken against the SHO.

Press clubs of Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Multan, along with the PFUJ, the Punjab Union of Journalists, the Media Action Committee and the Faisalabad Union of Journalists also condemned the police action and demanded that Hiraj’s name be removed from the FIR.
