Journalists boycott session over colleague’s murder

QUETTA: Journalists, on Tuesday, walked out of Balochistan Assembly proceedings against the target killing of journalist Munir Shakir in Khuzdar. Munir Shakir was killed by unidentified people on August 14.

He was the eleventh journalist of Balochistan who fell victim to target killing in two years. The journalists who were covering the session of the assembly staged a walk out from the Press Gallery of the House soon after the recitation from the holy Quran. Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani asked members of the assembly to persuade the journalists to end their boycott.

Four provincial ministers, Haji Ainullah Shams, Abdul Rehman Mengal, Shahnwaz Marri and Hammal Kalmati went to the protesting journalists at the main gate of assembly and talked about the matter. After assurance from the ministers that an investigation will be conducted into the murder of Munir Shakir, the journalists ended their boycott.
