Journalist Sheikh Saleemullah passes away

PESHAWAR: A senior journalist and former president of Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) and former general secretary of Peshawar Press Club (PPC), Sheikh Saleemullah, passed away in Lahore on Tuesday.

The late Sheikh Sahib was the News Editor of then lone English language newspaper ‘The Khyber Mail’ and the son of the founder of English journalism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sheikh Sanaullah.

Besides, a good teacher, he was a good trade unionist and remained in the forefront of the struggle for the independence of media during the regime of military dictator Zia-ul-Haq. His journalistic carrier was span over a period of four decades during which he groomed a large number of journalists.

After the closure of the erstwhile daily The Khyber Mail, he also remained associated with small newspapers like Pakistan Observer, Frontier Star and Khyber Mail International. He left behind two sons, a daughter and widow to mourn his death.
