Journalist nabbed for exposing tribal admin corruption

PESHAWAR- Ahmad Jan another journalist from Sadda town of Kurram Agency was arrested under the infamous black laws of Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR) when he allegedly exposed misdeeds of the political authorities.

Reports from Kurram Agency reveal that after arresting relatives of Iqbal Hussain a journalist, the political authorities have directed the remaining journalists not to issue any sort of news items against them otherwise they would face dire consequences.

Ahmad Jan another journalist from the agency has violated such directives and he was picked up from home late night. The relatives of lqbal Hussain are still in prison and the political authorities of Kurram agency have declared that until surrender of Iqbal all of relatives including his 80-year-old father would remain in prison.

The report reveals that political authorities have decided that they will not allow three journalists including Mohammad Jamil, Iqbal and Ahmad Jan into the agency.

Tribal Union of Journalists President Sailab Mehsud, General Secretary Munawar Afridi and information Secretary Syed Hassan Mehmood have denounced such acts against the journalists and they demanded early release of the arrested journalists and their relatives.

They also called upon Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf to take an early notice of the matter and direct the concerned quarters not to harass journalists otherwise government will be responsible for its consequences.
