Journalist manhandled

KARACHI- A journalist of a local news agency was manhandled and beaten up by some persons in Punjab Colony within the jurisdiction of Frere police on June 2nd 2003. Police supported the persons allegedly involved in it instead of providing any legal support to the journalist.

According to reports, some persons manhandled and beat up a reporter of a news agency in Punjab Colony without any reason. The reporter approached to the Frere police and tried to lodge his complaint, but police refused to register any complaint and stated, “This is an incident of law breaking and must involve you both, and if we register any report, it will be against both the parties.” Abdul Hafeez Noori and Ahmed Daraz Khan, president and secretary of Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) respectively, condemned this incident and demanded of high police officials to take action against those responsible for the manhandling.
