Journalist faces death threats from land mafia

KARACHI- Wahid Baksh Nipi Turk, a Sindhi journalist of a local Sindhi Newspaper during a Press conference held at Karachi Press Club (KPC) stated that he has been receiving death threats by a landmafia. He also confirmed that members of the landmafia threatened his associates of the same.

Revealing details, Turk said that the landmafia who have encroached on government upon the land of a graveyard in Malir area are on the lookout for him and his associates, since he and his associates have launched a drive against their encroachment of Government land. He said being a journalist initially reported the whole story, and later with concrete evidence I also unfolded details to the authorities. He said the concerned landmafia members warned him of dire consequences particularly death.

Turk said that he along with his other friends who are supporting him for the purpose are being forced to withdraw from the issue and are continuously being threatened and harassed to evacuate the area. He lauded the efforts taken by the SSP Malir Ghulam Nabi Memon who ordered an investigation during which two of the landmafia members Ghulam Mustafa Abro and Zafar Gowalchi were arrested and an FIR was also lodged aginst them.

He said these two men were previously apprehended in many criminal cases, He said the other members of the gang including a Policeman Mohammed Aslam Gowalchi, and Hayyat and Afzal and others are still at large, who might kill him, he said.

He further disclosed that about ten people of the area have already put pressure on him and his associates to withdraw from the case and squash the FIR against them, Habeed Ullah Abro (brother of one of the accused), Mohammed Qureshi, Abid Gullary, and Ahmed Ali Lashari were prominently identified by him as the area messengers and supporters of the mafia.
