Journalist beaten up, arrested in ’false case’

Pingrio, Sindh, August 01 (PPI): Pingrio police roughed up a local journalist and booked him in ’false cases’ in Shadi Large on Tuesday night.

Police intercepted vice-president of Shadi Large Press Club Mirza Tauqir Haider last night, subjected him to severe torture and arrested him. False cases of under Duty Act and death threats were lodged.

He was produced before the court of Civil Judge Badin due to which ordered shifting him to hospital due to his serious condition.

Former MNA of Pakistan People’s Party Zulfiqar Mirza said he would register case against police personnel involved in manhandling of a journalist, besides providing full legal aid to him.

Meanwhile, a large number of journalist led by Abdul Khaliq Bhatti held a protest demonstration and staged a sit against police. The protesting journalists demanded of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of the incident.
