JI seeks judicial probe against media black sheep
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami chief Munawar Hasan on Monday demanded accountability of the black sheep of the media and strict action against those involved in corruption.
In a statement, he referred to petitions filed by some media persons in the Supreme Court and demanded a judicial inquiry into the allegations levelled against them. The media persons had demanded that the Supreme Court award them exemplary punishment if they found guilty, otherwise, those levelling allegations against them should be placed in the dock.
The JI chief said instead of treating all media persons equally, it would be better to hold a thorough probe and find out the corrupt elements. He called on Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to set up a judicial commission in the light of the petitions to look into the allegations. At the same time, he said, the apex court should also examine the working of Pemra and check the immorality on TV channels.
Munawar also urged the media high ups to frame a code of ethics for themselves keeping in view their high responsibilities to guide the nation.
