JAP for release of AQ Khan, Aafia
LAHORE: The Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) has demanded of the government to release Dr Abdul Qadeer and approach the US government to get Dr Aafia Siddiqui freed on parole for Eidul Fitr.
A JAP meeting on Monday, held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Azhar Siddique advocate, passed resolutions, asking the government to pass immediate orders to withdraw restrictions imposed on Dr Qadeer as a gift on Eid. A political inquiry tribunal should be constituted, consisting heads of the political parties, to probe into Dr QadeerÃs matter, it demanded, adding that the famous scientistÃs trial should be conducted by Justice (retd) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui and Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmad.
The panel called on the government to approach the US government for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui on parole for Eid. It said the government had the authority to approach the UN for release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, offering free service for legal assistance in this regard. The JAP also formed a team of lawyers, political activists, students and journalists to assist Dr Aafia and her family to pursue the case against her in the US, requesting the government to issue free visas of the team.
