Jang Group director passes away

Hassan Jaffery, Director Special Projects at the Jang Group, passed away on Monday night.

His funeral was held at the Defence Imambargah and attended by a large number of people comprising family, friends and former colleagues. He was 64 at the time of his death and left behind a mother, a brother, architect Zaigham Jaffery, as well as three sisters. The deceased was laid to rest at the Gizri graveyard.

Jaffery joined The News when it was launched in 1991 and set up the Independent Communication Network, the first ever all-purpose auditorium research and seminar/discussion forum at any media group. The ICN hosted a large number of seminars and debates and hosted a wide spectrum of political leaders and opinion-makers from every field. The reports of the proceedings were regularly published in The News.

Hassan Jaffery was a pilot by profession and training and originally worked for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). After his eventful stint at the Jang Group, he went back to his original field of aviation and served as GM PR at PIA. After his retirement, he returned to the Jang Group and was serving as Director Special Projects till his untimely death.

His Soyem is scheduled to be held on October 18 (Thursday) after Asr prayers at House No 50, Bahadurabad near Naheed Super Market. (0332-8209324).

Zaigham Jaffery said his brother strived towards promoting education and journalism and had set up several institutes for these purposes.
