IT education at all govt schools soon: Hamida

KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro has said that IT education would be given to students at all government schools. Addressing a departmental meeting at her office on Wednesday, she said well-equipped modern computer labs would be set up in all government schools. She said the department was spending Rs1.2 billion on IT education. In order to improve teaching skills, a teachers’ training programme had also been initiated, she added and hoped it would help enhancing efficiency of schools.

Secretary Education Sabhago Khan Jatoi told the meeting that computer systems worth Rs1.5 million had been purchased, which would be provided to higher and middle schools in the first phase of the programme. He said some 206 IT centres, having 15 computers each, had already been set up.Dr Khuhro directed the concerned officials for early completion of the project. She observed that no one could progress in present scenario without having knowledge of IT. “I don’t want our students to lag behind in IT sector,” she added. Secretary Special Education Karim Bukhsh Sarohi and IT Department Project Director Baqaullah Unnar also attended the meeting.
