Invention to block obscenity on cable TV

ISLAMABAD- Cable TV operator has reported to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) an invention sensitive enough to block obscene contents of films projected through the system automatically.

The inventor, himself an operator in Darya Khan in Thal, has experimented the gadget successfully on his network and is to seek a patent protection for it.

The Pemra officials here identified the operator as Abid, having a very small business cable operation in the predominantly agricultural town on the left bank of the River Indus in the sandy local of Thal.

They commended his effort made within his meagre resources and said the system invented by him “realised a social responsibility” to protect the innocent among his subscribers.

Similarly, the Pemra said another cable operator in Faisalabad had set an example by “immediately stopping the relaying of all proscribed channels from his network.

Answering viewers’ criticism of some networks, the Authority had recently moved to ban all foreign channels that violate the national “social, cultural and religious values.”
