Internet vs social ties

This is with reference to Mr McCurry’s article ‘Internet addiction’ (July 15) in which he has highlighted the excessive use of the Internet in Korea. The issue is equally important to us.

Nowadays we see scores of youngsters glued to their computers.

They get so immersed in using the Internet that they consider it unimportant to physically spend some quality time with their friends and family.

It is true that the Internet has made it possible to get extremely valuable information with just a click. However, a large number of people use it for entertainment purposes only.

Machines can never replace humans. The true sources of happiness are, and will always be, one’s social ties. Family bonding, friendships and affection for others are the real source of happiness.
