Information minister should speak the truth: Jang Group

KARACHI: Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira should speak the truth, asserted a spokesman of the Jang Group here on Sunday while commenting on the statement by the minister that the government has neither stopped ads nor imposed any restriction on the Group.

The spokesman said the government advertisements to the Jang Group were mostly stopped. The ads being received by the Group are equal to nothing. He said advertisement agencies, clients, private media and associations such as All Pakistan Newspapers Society and Pakistan Broadcasters Association knew the fact that the government was not giving ads to the Jang Group. This matter is in court.

The spokesman said the information minister should fear the day when truth would be unveiled and already dwindling government’s credibility would touch the lowest ebb. What the government would do then, he asked.

He said Jang Group had adopted the policy of making struggle for the establishment of rule of law and exposing National Reconciliation Ordinance deal and earned the wrath of the then military dictator Pervez Musharraf. He said Jang Group’s channel was closed for almost three months and government ads to the Group were stopped.

The spokesman said the same policy was adopted by the present government as it could not tolerate Jang Group’s unprecedented policy projecting the rule of law and exposing corruption particularly repeated reminders of Swiss cases in which President Zardari is involved. He said these are the Swiss cases repeated reminders by the Jang Group that offend the government, which is taking actions against the Group.

He said Jang Group would adhere to its policy. He said Jang Group is not biased against anyone. Butt, he added, it would continue to remain biased against corruption and in favour of rule of law.
