Indian media fully backs peace process: INS president

LAHORE, June 24 2005: The President of Indian Newspaper Society and Chief Executive Officer of Zee News, Pardeep Guha has said that Indian media is fully backing the peace process, and playing its due role in forming public opinion.

Speaking at a luncheon hosted in the honour of visiting INS delegation (in Pakistan for their 500th meeting on the invitation of South Asian Free Media Association) under the aegis of Jang Group of Newspapers, he said the ongoing peace process was a good omen for lasting harmony and prosperity in the region.

He said the bilateral talks between India and Pakistan should result in something constructive, and urged the media professionals to realize their responsibilities at this juncture.

Commenting on the recent five-day visit of INS to Pakistan, in which the delegation has also visited Islamabad, Guha said it had been a very successful venture. The participants, he said, had been impressed with the warm hospitality while the interaction with their Pakistani counterparts had helped INS members in knowing Pakistani opinion about the issues.

Earlier, Group Director Marketing of the Jang Group of Newspapers Sarmad Ali welcomed the distinguished guests. He introduced the Jang Group and its various subsidiaries including different publications and Geo TV to the Indian guests. He said the Group was started in Delhi and its first publication Daily Jang (Urdu) was launched from Delhi in 1938 during the World War-II. He said the Group was playing a pivotal role to change the mindset of general public in favour of the Indo-Pak peace.

He expressed the hope that the ongoing talks between both the countries would result in peace and prosperity for the masses.

Later, souvenirs were given to the INS delegation members from the Jang Group of Newspapers to mark their visit to Pakistan while the INS President also handed over gifts to the hosts and other dignitaries present on the occasion.

The participants included Punjab Secretary Information Taimoor Azmat Usman, Director General Public Relations Shoaib Bin Aziz, Secretary General SAFMA Imtiaz Alam and representatives of the Jang Group of Newspapers.
