Inaugral ceremony of PTV Multan station held

MULTAN -Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Tariq Azeem Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi laid the foundation stone of the building of Pakistan Television Multan here on Friday. The ceremony for groundbreaking of Rs.307 million PTV Multan project was held at the 30-kanal site in front of Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) at Old Shujabad road here. Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi told newsmen after the ceremony that PTV Multan will promote regional cultural activities highlighting the cultural heritage of Multan and adjoining areas.

He said that Multan Television Centre is a gift of president Musharraf for the people of Southern Punjab. Pervaiz Elahi said that people will be able to express their talent in their own language and added that PTV Multan station will offer a platform to the local artists to Prove their capabilities. He said that while advocating demands of the people of this area, he himself had asked President General Pervez Musharraf for establishment of a television station in Multan during President’s last visit to the area in Feb 2005. He lauded President General Pervez Musharraf for paying special attention for uplifting the under-developed areas. Flow of funding has been diverted to under-developed areas and it will continue to bring prosperity to the people, he added.

PTV officials informed that the project would complete within two years and viewers of interior Sindh, Balochistan and South Punjab would be able to watch programmes to be aired by this station. They said that the total cost of Rs.307 million also includes Rs.102 million for purchase of equipment. The 30-kanal area included sixteen kanal for the PTV Multan building and remaining fourteen kanal for residential colony for staff.
