IHC issues notices in Geo case

ISLAMABAD: Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) here Monday issued notices to the Station House Officer (SHO) Kohsar Police Station, seeking his reply to an appeal against the dismissal of two petitions by a justice of peace for registration of FIRs against Geo television for alleging ISI involvement in the incident of attack on Geo TV Anchor Hamid Mir.

Justice of Peace/Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry on June 19 dismissed Qamar Abbas and Mirza Abdur Rehman’s applications seeking to register FIRs against Geo TV for alleging country’s premier intelligence agency—ISI—for its alleged involvement in the unfortunate incident.

The petitioner had filed applications before the justice of peace under Section 22-A.Legal counsel for Jang Group Faisal Iqbal advocate, while appearing in this matter before the justice of peace had contended that the petitioner was not an aggrieved person in this case.

The aggrieved party has already filed an application through the Ministry of Defence to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and authority already imposed 15 days ban and Rs10 million fine on Geo on June 6.

The justice of peace then dismissed the two petitions and the petitioners later on filed appeals before the IHC.IHC justice Qureshi adjourned the matter with date in office.
